Steve Shirts, the leader of the Cedar City Community Band, holds a prominent position in the field of music education. With an impressive career spanning 32 years as the Band Director at Cedar High School, Steve has made a lasting impact on numerous students and colleagues. Raised in Cedar City, Steve's musical journey began early in life, and he pursued his passion with unwavering dedication.

A proud graduate of Cedar High School, Steve furthered his musical education at Southern Utah State College, where he studied Music Education. Following a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Steve returned to complete his studies at SUSC, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. His commitment to continuous learning led him to achieve a master's degree in Secondary Education from Southern Utah University.

In February 2021, Steve was recognized for his outstanding contributions to music education with induction into the Utah Music Educators Association Hall of Fame. As the director of the Cedar City Community Band, Steve continues to share his love for music with the local community. His dedication to nurturing musical talent and creating enriching experiences for his students remains steadfast. In addition to his role as a band director, Steve has held various leadership positions within the Utah Music Educators Association and other community music organizations.

Throughout his career, Steve has found unwavering support from his family, including his wife, Jill, and their four children. Together, they have participated in 11 tours with the Utah Ambassadors of Music, spreading the joy of music to audiences far and wide. Even in retirement, Steve's passion for music continues to illuminate as he shares his knowledge and enthusiasm with the Cedar City community.
